He was raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason on 3 July 1973 in Collinsville Lodge No. 712, A.F.&A.M., in Collinsville, affiliating with Ionic Lodge No. 312 in Decatur on 11 April 1978, of which he served as Worshipful Master in the years 1994, 1997 and 2001. He passed the exam for the Certified Lodge Instructor on 22 November 1997.

Excellent Companion Brewer was advanced to the degree of Mark Master Mason on 11 December 1990, and exalted to the supreme degree of Holy Royal Arch Mason on 14 December, 1990, both in Macon Chapter No. 21 in Decatur, over which he presided as Excellent High Priest in 1994. He has supervised the chapters in his area as District Deputy Grand High Priest from 2001 until 2007. He joined the Grand Chapter line on 28 July 2006 when he was appointed and installed as Excellent Grand Steward. He was elected and installed Excellent Grand Master of the Third Veil on 27 July 2007. He is also the Area Coordinator for the District Deputy Grand High Priests in his area.

Our Excellent Grand Master of the Third Veil was greeted as a Select Master in Decatur Council No. 16 on 6 April 1991 in Decatur, receiving the degree of Super Excellent Master the same day. He went on to serve his council as Thrice Illustrious Master in 1994. He received the Illinois Grand Council’s Leadership Award in 2001.

Leonard was dubbed and created a Knight of the Valiant and Magnanimous Order of the Temple in Beaumanoir Commandery No. 9, Knights Templar of the State of Illinois, on 12 January 1991 in Decatur, presiding as Eminent Commander in 1994.

In recognition of his having presided as a Worshipful Master, Excellent High Priest, Thrice Illustrious Master, and Eminent Commander, Sir Knight Brewer was received into Illinois Priory No. 11 as a Knight of the York Cross of Honour on 14 September 1996.

Excellent Companion Brewer was ordained into Lily of the Valley Tabernacle XLVI, Holy Royal Arch Knights Templar Priests on 10 December 2005; installed into the degree of Knight of the East and West in Earl of Torrell Council No. 24, Knight Masons U.S.A. on 9 September 1995; was received into Central Illinois York Rite College No. 42 on 19 February 1994; and was greeted into the Mount Vernon Preceptory No. X of Yeoman of York on 14 September 2006.

Brother Brewer became a member of Decatur Chapter No. 111, Order of the Eastern Star on 24 September 1999.

Leonard was created a Noble of the Mystic Shrine in Ansar Shrine, A.A.O.N.M.S., on 27 April 1974.
