Excellent Grand Sentinel Emertus Companion John L. "Jack" Buvelot was born in 1941 at Chicago, and was awarded a bachelor of arts degree in Business Administration from Governors State University. On 20 July 1968, he married the former Carolyn L. McCorkle. Together, they have two children and three grand children. Jack is active in Immanuel United Church of Christ in Evergreen Park, where he has served as Sunday school teacher, on the Board of Christian Education, Chairman of the Board of Christian Education, head of his usher team, Elder on the Church Governing Board, and in helping the minister with his pastoral duties. His other community involvements include Scouting with whom he has been skipper of a Sea Scout ship, Cub Master, Assistant Scout Master, and Order of the Arrow adviser; Illinois Civil Defense in Oak Forest where he served in various capacities such as shelter manager and radiological monitoring instructor; chairman of the I am An American Parade; and as one of the founders of the Joleen Watson Blood Programme, now known as the Oak Forest Blood Bank. Our Grand Royal Arch Captain was raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason on 4 October 1963, in Drexel-Composite Lodge Number 879, Ancient Free & Accepted Masons of Illinois, in Chicago. This lodge thence merged as follows: into Compass Lodge No. 922 on 15 September 1966; into Lakeside Compass Lodge No. 739 on 30 June 1978; and into Evergreen Park Lodge No. 1171 on 10 June 2003. He affiliated as a plural member of Oak Lawn Lodge No. 1166 on 19 January 2006, and is a life member of the Illinois Lodge of Research. He is a plural member of Auburn Park Lodge No. 789, where he presided as Worshipful Master in 2010. Our excellent companion was advanced to the degree of Mark Master and exalted to the supreme degree of Holy Royal Arch Mason, both on 12 September 1998, in Logan Chapter Number 196 in Oak Lawn. He became a plural member of Kankakee Chapter Number 78 in January 2007, where he presided as Excellent High Priest in 2007 and whom he currently serves as Chaplain. He received the Anointed Order of High Priesthood in July 2007. He serves the Grand Chapter as a member of the Masonic Relations committee and as the chairman of the Worshipful Masters Certificate Programme. He joined the Grand Chapter line on 31 July 2009 as Excellent Grand Sentinel, and retired 29 July 2011. Companion Buvelot was greeted as a Select Master on 12 September 1998 in Temple Council No. 65, Cryptic Masons of Illinois, in Oak Lawn. He received the degree of Super Excellent Master in 1999.In 2007, he affiliated as a plural member of Owisco Council Number 108, in Kankakee, and presided as Thrice Illustrious Master the same year; he currently serves as Chaplain of Owisco Council. Jack was dubbed and created a Knight of the Valiant and Magnanimous Order of the Temple on 12 September 1998 in Mizpah Commandery No. 53, Knights Templar of the State of Illinois, in Oak Lawn. In 2007, he affiliated as a plural member of Ivanhoe Commandery No. 33. In recognition of his sponsorship of new fratres, he was awarded the Grand Commandery's basic Membership Jewel on 2 August 2008, and the first appurtenance on 1 August 2009. |
