Ahmad M. “Andy” Hassan
Excellent Grand Master of the First Veil
Companion Hassan was born in 1952. He served in the U.S. Army from 1972 to 1980. After being awarded both bachelor of science and master of arts degrees from Governors State University, he has pursued a dual career as a real estate broker and insurance agent, owning his own firms. He and his wife, Sue, have one child and one grandchild.
Our Grand Master of the Third Veil was raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason 1983, in the former Triangle Lodge No. 879, Ancient Free & Accepted Masons, under the American-Canadian Grand Lodge of Germany, in Mannheim, Germany [then known as West Germany]. He has presided as Worshipful Master of two lodges under the Grand Lodge of Ancient Free and Accepted Masons of Illinois: Kosmos-Paramount Lodge No. 896 in Homewood in 1998, and Western Springs Lodge No. 1136 in Western Springs in 1999 and 2002; he has since served as Senior Warden in the latter in 2008 and 2009. He is also a member of Evergreen Park Lodge No. 1171 in Tinley Park since its merger with his former Lake Side Comps Lodge, also of Tinley Park. He is a life member and current Chaplain of the Illinois Lodge of Research. He serves as a member of the Insurance Committee of the Grand Lodge of Illinois.
Andy was advanced to the degree of Mark Master and exalted to the supreme degree of Holy Royal Arch Mason, both in Joliet Chapter No. 27 in Joliet, where he later presided as Excellent High Priest. He is also a member of Three Pillars Chapter No. 280 in Western Springs. He joined the Grand Chapter line on 1 August 2008 as Excellent Grand Sentinel, and was installed as Excellent Grand Master of the First Veil on 31 July 2009.
Companion Hassan was greeted as a Select Master in Joliet Council No. 82, Cryptic Masons of Illinois, in Joliet, where he subsequently presided as Trice Illustrious Master.
Our Excellent Grand Master of the First Veil was dubbed and created a Knight of the Valiant and Magnanimous Order of the Temple in Joliet Commandery No. 4, Knights Templar of the State of Illinois, in Joliet, where he presided as Eminent Commander in 2002.
As a Past Master, Past High Priest, Past Thrice Illustrious Master, and Past Eminent Commander, Sir Knight Hassan was received into Illinois Priory No. 11 as a Knight of the York Cross of Honour in 2005.
Companion Hassan was initiated into Qumran Council No. 407, Allied Masonic Degrees, in 2007 at Downers Grove, where he presided as Sovereign Master. He was created a Knight of York in Blackhawk York Rite College No. 88, in Freeport, presiding as Pre-Eminent Governor in the years 2008 and 2009.
Our Excellent Grand Master of the First Veil was created a 32° Scottish Rite Freemason and Sublime Prince of the Royal Secret in the Valley of Chicago, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, where he currently serves as Senior Warden of Gorgas Chapter of Rose Croix of Heredom, and the chairman of the valley's Membership Committee.
He was inducted into Illinois Pyramid No. 1, Ancient Egyptian Order of Sciots, and presided as Toparch.
Andy was admitted to the Enchanted Realm and made a Veiled Prophet in Aliabad Grotto, M.O.V.P.E.R., in Orland Park, over whom he presided as Monarch in 2008, and whom he currently serves as Secretary.
Companion Hassan was created a Noble of the Mystic Shrine in Medinah Shriners, A.A.O.N.M.S.. He is the president of the Southwest Side Shrine Club, and the Chief Raban of Hillbilly Clan No. 57.
