Excellent Grand Captain of the Host Excellent Companion Charles R. Horwitz was born in 1930 at New York City. After being awarded baccalaureate degrees in English and speech from Long Island University, he pursued a career in sales. On 11 June 1953, he married the former Marjorie Ekstein. Together, they have three children and six grand children. He is the owner legendary Brother Harry Houdini's family Bible. Our Grand Captain of the Host was raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason on 10 May 1977 in the former Modin Lodge No. 1153 in Baldwin, New York. He presided over Glenview Lodge No. 1058 as Worshipful Master on the years 1984-1985, and later supervised it as both District Deputy Grand Master and Area Deputy Grand Master. He holds plural memberships in King Oscar Lodge No. 855 and Morton Grove Lodge No. 1146; he has returned to the chairs, as Senior Deacon of both Glenview-United and Morton Grove Lodges. Additionally, he is the Grand Representative of the Grand Lodge, A.F.&A.M., of Illinois to the Grand Lodge of the State of Israel. He was advanced to the degree of Mark Master and exalted to the supreme degree of Holy Royal Arch Mason, both in August 1980 in Oracle Chapter No.180 in Glenview, where he served as High Priest in the year 1996. He joined the Grand Chapter line in as Grand Captain of the Guard, and was elected and was installed as Grand Captain of the Host on 27 July 2007. Excellent Companion Horwitz was greeted as a Select Master in August 1960 in Forest C. McDaniel Council No 115 in Glenview, and served as the chapter’s Thrice Illustrious Master in the years 1993-1994. He received the degree of Super Excellent Master in 1981; and has served the Grand Council of Cryptic Masons of Illinois as District Inspector. Chuck was dubbed and created a Knight of the Order of the Valiant and Magnanimous Temple in Glenview Commandery (later merged to become Austin Commandery) No. 84, Knights Templar of the State of Illinois, on August 1980 in Glenview; he served as Commander of Austin Commandery No. 84 in 1984, and has continued to serve as Recorder for over a decade, being recognized as Recorder of the Year by the Illinois Grand Commandery in 2005. He is a life member of the Past Commanders Association. As a Past Master, Past High Priest, Past Thrice Illustrious Master, and Past Eminent Commander, Sir Knight Horwitz was received into Illinois Priory No. 11 as a Knight of the York Cross of Honour on 30 January 1997. He was installed into the degree of Knight of the East and West in Saint Bridget Council No. 23, Knight Masons of the U.S.A., in February 1992, serving as Excellent Chief of the council in 2005. He was initiated into Edwin M. Lambert Council No. 319, Allied Masonic Degrees, of Glenview, in February 1995; received into both Ye Ancient Order of Corks and the Masonic Order of the Bath in February 1999. He was received into the Order of the Purple Cross in July 2007, an honour bestowed upon him by the York Rite Sovereign College of North America. He became a member of the Grand College of Rites in February 1999. He was created a 32° Scottish Rite Freemason and Sublime Prince of the Royal Secret in the Valley of Chicago in May 1985. Excellent Companion Horwitz is also involved in several Masonic social organizations, including the Order of Yellow Dogs in Glenview since May 1997; Dobrovsky Club of Czechoslovak Masons in Brookfield; and the Kentucky Colonels. He is Past Chief of the Chicago Masonic Veterans Association, and is President of Middle Chamber High Twelve Club No. 725 in Northbrook. Chuck was admitted into the Enchanted Realm and made a Veiled Prophet in El Jaala Grotto, M.O.V.P.E.R., of Des Plaines, in April 2000. He was created a Noble of the Mystic Shrine in May 1983 in Medinah Shriners, A.A.O.N.M.S., with whom he served as a Potentate’s Aid in 2001, and as President of the Glenbrook Shrine Club. Our Grand Captain of the Host was awarded membership in the Frank S. Land Preceptory of the Legion of Honour by the Order of DeMolay of Illinois on 15 June 2002. |
